Internal Gripper
Internal grippers are special gripping tools that are used in robotics and automation technology to grip workpieces from the inside. In contrast to conventional grippers, which grip objects from the outside, internal grippers penetrate an opening or recess in the workpiece and expand there to ensure a firm hold. This makes them ideal for workpieces with cavities or internal threads. The mode of operation is often based on mechanical expansion or pneumatic systems that activate the gripping mechanism.
Internal grippers are particularly suitable for:
- Cylindrical workpiecesPipes, bushes or other cylindrical objects with internal openings can be gripped securely.
- Workpieces with internal boresComponents with precise bores, such as gear wheels or flanges.
- Hollow bodiesContainers, bottles or similar hollow structures that are sensitive on the outside or difficult to access.
- Injection moulded parts: When handling plastic parts, internal grippers can help to protect sensitive surfaces.
The advantages of internal grippers are the ability to grip objects without external pressure and deformation, as well as their suitability for applications where conventional gripping methods would fail due to size, shape or material. They are often used in the automotive, mechanical engineering, packaging and plastics industries.
